More than 45 dealers have set up shop in Ron Hook’s 10,000-square-foot store, located in a 1920s shoe factory just off King Street, the town’s main drag. In addition to the predictable assortment of goodies, St. Jacobs boasts a few rare finds that reflect the district’s Mennonite heritage. A German china shaving mug dates back to 1890, when barbers kept one on hand for each customer. Mennonite quilts go for $195 to $495. The market’s additional specialties are antique jewellery and silverware; one whole room is devoted to baubles of all price ranges, including diamond wedding rings starting at $195.
