Playwright Leanna Brodie and outdoor company 4th Line Theatre take a page from L. M. Montgomery and Gabrielle Roy for this tale of a young teacher in a rural 1930s farming community. Rowdy pupils, guarded townspeople and a boy in need of saving make up the sweet tale that was a success at the Blyth Festival (where it premiered in 2006) and again last year at 4th Line. Previews from Aug. 5.—Stéphanie Verge
