While he’s now best known for penning a play (Equus) that allowed hysterical teen theatre-goers to catch a glimpse of Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe in the buff, Peter Shaffer has had a long, illustrious career. Soulpepper is tackling his 1965 farce Black Comedy—which tracks the travails of characters struggling to navigate a dark apartment—pairing it with the one-act of another British wit, Tom Stoppard. The Real Inspector Hound tells the story of two theatre critics who become embroiled in a real-life whodunit while watching a ludicrous murder mystery. Jim Warren directs a cast that includes Caroline Cave and C. David Johnson. Previews from Aug. 20.—Stéphanie Verge
