It’s just not summer in Canada without a Rush concert. And though the Willowdale-bred band has taken a hiatus from time to time over its four-decade career, it’s been remarkably reliable when it comes to delivering its brainy yet brawny brand of prog rock to its ever-faithful hometown constituency. The past few years have seen a surge of activity, including a 2004 tour to mark Rush’s 30th anniversary with this roster of musicians (drummer-lyricist Neil Peart joined singer-bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson in 1974), the release of oldies covers disc Feedback (2004) and the studio album Snakes & Arrows (2007). By all accounts, they haven’t lost any of their much-vaunted instrumental dexterity. The only debate among the faithful is over which Rush classic makes the best set opener: “Tom Sawyer,” “The Spirit of Radio” or “Limelight”? Couldn’t they just play all three simultaneously?—Jason Anderson
