Their latest album got more attention for how it was sold than how it sounded. Now that the hubbub around the band’s decision to initially offer In Rainbows (2007) as a pay-what-you-can download has died down, it’s easier to tell that it contains some of the group’s most fully realized music to date. Thom Yorke and his bandmates have finally found the balance between the moody heroics of their early albums and the more experimental sounds they preferred after 1997’s OK Computer became a touchstone for a new generation of rock fans.—Jason Anderson
