Kanye West secured his title as hip hop’s heavyweight champion when his third album, Graduation, posted higher first-week sales than the 50 Cent disc released on the same day last September. An electrifying appearance at the Grammy Awards alongside Daft Punk (whom he sampled on “Stronger”) was a reminder that the MC is sometimes just as good as he thinks he is. As the headliner of summer’s first big tour, he’ll be basking in his own glory alongside R&B starlet Rihanna, fellow hip-hop experimentalist Lupe Fiasco, and N.E.R.D, the brainchild of super-producers The Neptunes.—Jason Anderson
