Culture with Kenyatta Hill

As always, Caribana weekend features an enormous bounty of Caribbean music at venues all over the city. Among the many acts at the seventh annual Irie Music Fest—which fills Nathan Phillips Square and Queen’s Park with food and tunes (Aug. 1 to 4)—is one that helped define the rich style of Jamaican roots reggae in the ’70s. Though the reggae world was saddened by the passing of Culture singer Joseph Hill two years ago, the group is now ably fronted by Hill’s son Kenyatta.—Jason Anderson
