Toronto Symphony Orchestra: Mendelssohn Reformation Symphony

The orchestra’s recently retired concertmaster, Jacques Israelievitch, is back for a solo gig playing Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto no. 1 in G Minor, op. 26. The title work for this program, which features guest conductor Alain Trudel, is Mendelssohn’s Symphony no. 5 in D Major, op. 107, known as the “Reformation Symphony” and composed in honour of the 300th anniversary of Martin Luther’s Augsburg Confession. Trudel and the TSO also take on Haydn’s Symphony no. 50 in C Major, Hob. I/50, and Toronto composer Andrew Stani­land’s Voyageur. Nov. 1. $37–$125. Roy Thomson Hall. Nov. 2. $39–$89.
