This show—curated by Emelie Chhangur for AGYU’s main space—is Brazilian artist Carla Zaccagnini’s first major solo exhibit in a public gallery. And it’s definitely an idiosyncratic and ambitious one. The title, No. It is opposition, is a palindrome, suggesting the project’s dizzying take on the ideas of mirroring and divergence. To start, Zaccagnini will build a full-scale replica of the gallery’s lobby inside its first gallery that will contain paired video works. Other replications of AGYU’s activities, including curation duties Chhangur usually handles, are part of the show. And then, the pièce de résistance: a live choreographed performance with real, uniformed flight attendants from Air Canada and Porter Air doing hand gestures to inflight safety regulations, which will be videotaped twice and…well, you get the idea.
