Not so long ago, Toronto was a white-bread city. That was before chefs started baking Danish rye, sous-viding bacon and otherwise messing with the old bread-meat-bread formula. Today’s sandwiches are unconventional, artisanal and, we can confirm after extensive testing, utterly delicious. Here, our picks for the top 20 Toronto sandwiches.

you’re missing Black Camel Cafe!!
Le Ti Colibri use a homemade hot sauce on the sandwich ( made with scotch bonnet pepper…)….not a cantaloupe vinaigrette :-)
i suppose if carousel bakery served its peameal bacon sandwich with pickled wild leeks, black garlic aioli, nastertium and “100 mile” salt on fenugreek paratha, would it get your attention then?
Seriously, no mention of Sanagan’s sandwiches. For shame.

This article should have been titled: “Sandwiches white people like”. How can you leave out California Sandwiche’s veal? You wouldn’t catch me dead eating most of those on the list, they look great in pictures but are far too busy and lack cohesion.
You obviously haven’t been to The Chickery!

this list is so-so. missing some really super awesome sandwiches from actual sandwich shopes. glad to see Dr Augustas Samitorium on here – havent heard any buzz about this place ever….. must agree that its a sad day when California Sandwiches doesnt make the list. ps. the starving artist is gross. and slow.
I gotta wonder if restaurants pay Toronto Life for these reviews. so tired of seeing the same places make different lists over and over again. For example, in the mag Aunties and Uncles is listed every month as a top brunch spot. totally and completely overrated place. Everytime I walk by i encourage people to stop waiting and go to one of the many other options in the hood. Lots of places to visit. maybe its time to hire more adventurous reviewers

Wagamama Pastries has been serving amazing sandwiches for the past 13 years. I go once or twice a week. On fresh baked Homemade bread that comes out of the oven minutes before lunch.
Only $6.35 tax included. And it’s huge! You can also get a half sandwich.

My additions: The shrimp po boy at the
Gabardine, the chicken thigh at This End Up, and the classic burger at
Stockyards.
The fact that La Salumeria or Black Camel are not on this list is a travesty.
Since you continue to rate Canoe one of our top restaurants I am not surprised that California and Carousel Bakery peameal did not make your list.
Toront Life AND The Grid missed the venerable Black Camel Cafe; so disappointing.
