The day that roti lovers across the city have been dreading is finally nigh: after fighting an eviction notice and then steeply increased rents, The Real Jerk’s last day of business at Queen and Broadview will be May 27. To brighten the sad event, owners Ed and Lily Pottinger are throwing a number of shin-digs before shutting down: tonight will mark the last time the restaurant hosts its Irie-Okee Karaoke night, Friday will feature a fashion show and launch for the Caribbean Carnival (née Caribana)—which takes place in August—and on Saturday, there’s a big goodbye party planned, starting at 7 p.m. The Pottingers have kept mum about their next location, but eager patrons can sign up for updates via the restaurant’s mailing list.
