The Dish Power Rankings: Edulis is back edition

The-Dish-Power-Rankings

Toronto Life’s weekly roundup of the restaurants with the biggest buzz, the longest lineups and the toughest tables to snag.

Edulis returns from vacation to a packed house; meanwhile, we crown Toronto’s top sandwich.

  1. Bar Isabel (no change)
The crowds keeping coming to Grant van Gameren’s new Little Italy den (even though NOW says it’s really, really loud in there).
  2. Chantecler (↑3)
Jonathan Poon’s tasting menu is so popular the restaurant pulled its email address off its website to stop the deluge of reservation requests. Seats are booked through until July.
  3. Farmhouse Tavern (no change)
The Junction hot spot may be busy as ever, but is still graciously squeezed in the crew from Bar Isabel on Monday night. Cue Twitter
    love-fest.
  4. Edulis (back this week)
After a three-week hiatus, Edulis is open again. It’s reservation book, however, is not. The next weekend table is available in June.
  5. Hopgood’s Foodliner (↓3)
The glow from world-renowned chef René Redzepi’s accolades is finally starting to fade: weekend tables for two are open, but only after 10 pm.
  6. Kingyo (↑3)
The Cabbagetown izakaya has received three recent raves: we named it number eight on our best new restaurants ranking; the Star praised its hospitality; and now the Globe likes it, too.
  7. Playa Cabana Cantina (↓2)
Earlier seatings on Fridays and Saturdays are finally starting to free up at Toronto’s top taqueria.
  8. Banh Mi Boys (new this week)
The Vietnamese sub shop opened its second location on Yonge Street. Word is there’s a secret menu, and the best thing on it is the pork belly and fried chicken Club Bao.
  9. Splendido (back this week)
The Stanley Cup showed up outside the Toronto institution (go Leafs go!) on the same week Victor Barry announced a dinner collaboration with celebrity chef Marc Thuet.
  10. Origin Liberty (new this week)
Power is the city’s best sandwich: a hot and delicioulsy sloppy chorizo bomb.

Honourable mentions: India Hicks, the former model, bridesmaid to Princess Diana and number 678 in the line of succession to the British Throne, was spotted at Café Boulud. Intellectual power couple John Ralston Saul and Adrienne Clarkson went to Keriwa. And Peter Gallagher, the dreamboat dad on The O.C., showed for Sunday brunch at School Bakery and Café.

Dropped off the list: Electric Mud BBQ, OddSeoul, Bellwoods Brewery and Elephant and Castle.
