Playa Cabana is setting up sister Cantina in the Junction
Dave Sidhu, owner of the Annex’s Playa Cabana, will be opening Playa Cantina at 2883 Dundas West in the coming weeks, bringing authentic Mexican food to the Junction. Sidhu doesn’t plan to deviate too far from what made Cabana successful: he’s sticking to staples like tacos, burritos and a ceviche of the day. But the sister restaurant won’t be a complete clone. There’s a seven-seat raw bar, and a new focus on cocktails (a cantina is a bar, after all). With Cantina joining Indie Alehouse, located across the street, and the otherwise nameless 3030 Dundas West, the once dry Junction is becoming something of a boozy destination. We think Indie Alehouse summed up the emerging atmosphere best in a tweet: “Tequila! And craft beer. What could go wrong?”
“providing the Junction with a proper dose of authentic Mexican food.”
Isn’t La Revolucion just down the street?
So thrilled to see Dave and Playa successful and getting noticed. He’s a great guy and as passionate as possible about his restaurants and the business in general. I also know that Dave isn’t about competing with existing restaurants in a neighbourhood but working with them so they can all benefit. There is no doubt in my mind that Playa Cantina will be successful and I believe it won’t be long before The Junction has a newfound buzz.
looking forward to that!!!
Looking forward to checking out his new restaurant! The hubby and I absolutely love Playa Cabana. I’m sure this will not disappoint.
Looking forward to eating at Playa Cantina – the other Mexican restaurant across the street is not to my liking – no flavour or seasoning in the food at all and the back room gets full of smoke and hot grease smells when they have entertainment back there – no ventilation!!!!!
Have been to the Dupont location several times and never
dissappointed. The new junction location bound to be
a hit! Cannot wait to check it out!
