Name: Madame Boeuf and Flea Contact: 252 Dupont St., madameboeuf.com, @madameboeufandflea Neighbourhood: The Annex Owners: Anthony Rose In the kitchen: Kevin Gilmour and Aaron Hallam
The food
A “stupid-simple” (Rose’s words, not ours) backyard barbecue menu of burgers, cheese fries, shrimp cocktail and Ed’s Real Scoop ice cream (in scoop, float or slushie form). “This was always the original idea,” Rose says. “Rose and Sons has Big Crow, Fat Pasha has Schmaltz and Bar Begonia has Madame Boeuf.”
The drinks
Beer, wine, a few summery cocktails on tap and boozy slushies, including one made with rosé (it’s called “frozé” because of course it is). For the kids: pop, floats and non-boozy slushies.
The space
Complete with a shipping container kitchen, picnic tables and a bocce ball court—the seasonal spot wouldn’t be out of place in cottage country. And on the last Saturday of every month, Madame Boeuf turns into a flea market. The current vendor lineup includes Badass Breads, Poppies, The Beguiling and Smash. There’ll also be vinyl for sale (which customers can try before they buy), coffee from Ezra’s Pound and baked goods from Wilder and Rose.
