Coco Rogue to bring stylish chocolates and desserts to Yonge and Eglinton

Yonge and Eglinton is a neighbourhood that loves its cafés and bakeries (witness the Cupcake Shoppe, La Bohème, the Designer Cookie Boutique and Bakeshop, Dufflet, La Bamboche and Jedd’s Frozen Custard). So it’s no surprise that the ’hood is about to be home to Coco Rogue, an haute chocolate and dessert shop with decor to match (think chandeliers and a grand piano).

Behind Coco Rogue is Bruce Tanton, owner of Bokks, the Canadian luxury chocolate brand. Tanton has spent the past three years travelling and training as a chocolatier: first with Canadian Pam Williams of Ecole Chocolat, then to Normandy to train under award-winning pastry chef Philippe Parc.

Heavily influenced by some of the world’s top dessert shops, like Ladurée and Jacques Torres, Coco Rogue will be a patisserie and café by day and a “dessert lounge” in the evenings that will offer small bites for the after-work crowd. Under dimmed lights, diners can expect cheese platters and prosciutto wraps, followed by chocolate fondues and pairings of chocolate with wine, champagne, beer and whisky. With any luck, we’re hoping it will bring to Toronto the whimsy of a place like New York’s Max Brenner and the sort of stylish desserts you see at Chikalicious, also of NYC.

Coco Rogue is slated to open in May.
