Coco Rogue to bring stylish chocolates and desserts to Yonge and Eglinton
Yonge and Eglinton is a neighbourhood that loves its cafés and bakeries (witness the Cupcake Shoppe, La Bohème, the Designer Cookie Boutique and Bakeshop, Dufflet, La Bamboche and Jedd’s Frozen Custard). So it’s no surprise that the ’hood is about to be home to Coco Rogue, an haute chocolate and dessert shop with decor to match (think chandeliers and a grand piano).
Behind Coco Rogue is Bruce Tanton, owner of Bokks, the Canadian luxury chocolate brand. Tanton has spent the past three years travelling and training as a chocolatier: first with Canadian Pam Williams of Ecole Chocolat, then to Normandy to train under award-winning pastry chef Philippe Parc.
Heavily influenced by some of the world’s top dessert shops, like Ladurée and Jacques Torres, Coco Rogue will be a patisserie and café by day and a “dessert lounge” in the evenings that will offer small bites for the after-work crowd. Under dimmed lights, diners can expect cheese platters and prosciutto wraps, followed by chocolate fondues and pairings of chocolate with wine, champagne, beer and whisky. With any luck, we’re hoping it will bring to Toronto the whimsy of a place like New York’s Max Brenner and the sort of stylish desserts you see at Chikalicious, also of NYC.
Coco Rogue is slated to open in May.

it’s a pity that the area has a couple of decent bakeries (La Bamboche and Thobor) but lack any good coffee. I always end up going downtown on the weekend just to have a nice fresh cup of drip coffee or espresso.
The desserts at Chikalicious are not stylish but I am excited about this place. It’ll be interesting to see how the dessert lounge is perceived by Torontonians.
Seems to me like this is a copy cat of MoRoCo Chocolat in Yorkville… Don’t people have any original ideas anymore? Similar colors and wannabe design… Lame.
Sounds like Toronto is coming into it’s own with a place like this! Can’t wait for it to open.
Bokkx chocolate is excellent! I used to get it at Indigo. I have trouble finding it locally, so I am pleased to see a local spot to get high quality and yummy chocolate. The lounge, champagne and chocolate idea is unique – especially the piano and chandeliers! When is the grand opening?
The addition of a hip chocolate lounge sounds like the perfect fit for the Yonge and Eligible neighbourhood. I’m looking forward to the grand opening and hopeful that the passion lives up to the promise.
Neat, I can’t wait to check it out! At first it does remind me of Moroco, but to be honest that place is not that great. My experiences there were mediocre to say the least. If this owner has actual chocolate knowledge then this place will probably be great and do better than Moroco.
This looks really cool, I really like the logo design. Looks really upscale and inviting. Would love to know who designed it!
any idea when they’ll be opening up? the artilce says May, but I was there on July 3rd and their doors still hadn’t opened..
