Last week, diehard butter chicken fans in the east end were startled to discover that Lahore Tikka House’s beloved, albeit “hole in the wall,” trailers were being torn down. We caught up with the management to find out what had happened to one of our fave places in Little India.

After 14 years of serving up its famous kebabs, tandoori chicken and kulfi in its temporary trailer space, Lahore Tikka House has finally completed the renovations on the building next door. The new, permanent restaurant will offer the exact same Pakistani and North Indian cuisine regulars have come to know and love at Lahore. During the summer, a tent will be erected outside where the trailers once stood. Both will offer the same friendly yet traditional South Asian festival-like atmosphere (the manager we spoke to was hesitant to guarantee the now-iconic saris and Christmas lights).

So far, the restaurant is just one floor, but it’s rumoured that a banquet hall and even a nightclub are also in the works for the second floor. We’ll be watching, but we know better than to hold our breath. Besides, some things are worth waiting for.
