—Nancy Ceci, the Richmond Hill woman who suffered second-degree burns after her boyfriend accidentally spilled an extra-large Tim Hortons tea into her lap, expressing her dissatisfaction with the coffee company’s response to the accident. Ceci told the Star that the Timmies head office offered her a $50 gift card if she agreed not to go to the media with her story. Tim Hortons claims its investigation into the incident is ongoing and that the gift card was offered with no strings attached.
As much as it sucks to get second degree burns, it’s not Tim Hortons fault. What if they were having tea at home and he spilled it on her there? His (accidental) fault either way.
Yes, but Tim Hortons likely keeps their water for tea brewing at a far higher temperature than we do at home, one that may be unsafe. This was the crux of the famous McDonald’s coffee burn lawsuit. She won’t get a million dollar award, but she might have a case in small claims court for Tim’s at least having contributory negligence.
You idiot. Tea is made with HOT water, merely off its boil. You don’t make tea hotter in retail than at home. The only negligence is dumb dumb who can’t drink from a cup.
