QUOTED: Jamie Oliver declares last night’s meal at Buca the best he’s had all year
The once Naked Chef was in town last night for a speaking engagement at Roy Thomson Hall to promote Jamie Oliver’s Food Escapes, his new show that’s a somewhat less potty-mouthed version of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. Judging by a tweet from this morning, he was more than a little impressed with the food he ate last night at King West rustic Italian restaurant Buca:
my favourite meal of the year @chefbuca this Canadian is a humble genius such integrit @ Buca Restaurant Toronto http://instagr.am/p/Ug-v5/
The humble genius in question is, of course, Buca chef Rob Gentile, who took to Twitter himself last night to declare he’d “had a great time doin it up!” cooking for Oliver and Derek Dammann, the chef of Montreal’s DNA. We can’t help but imagine it’ll be even harder than usual to find a table at Buca tonight.
the poor guy can fill a foodie haunt yet cant convince parents to feed their children nutritious food??? i like that he is eternally positive but would love to read an irreverant tome on what he’s learned about human kind since he began his crusade…
Bravo to everyone who believes that what we eat matters to the world and to our children. Jamie is leading the way.
Congrats Rob,
Looks like you are on a roll with the Gold Metal Plates achievement and impressing one of the world’s most discerning palates!
First of all, No Reservations was a great travel/foodie show. It is a testament to this that other Celeb chefs are clamoring to imitate the idea. We had Gordon Ramsay’s “Gordon’s Great Escape” starting last year and now Jamie’s similarly titled show.
The other possibility is that they are simply running out of new ideas for Food based television…
Would probably have to agree more with Jamie. Really high-level food here from the classic Italian to the more unique items on the menu with very modern twists. Had a great meal.
I’d recommend the orecchiette, kale salad, nodini, and many other items. Menu changes daily though so no guarantee you get to eat what Jamie did.
