QUOTED: Galen Weston on just what he thinks of the competition
Farmers’ markets are great….One day they’re going to kill some people though.
—Loblaw executive chairman Galen Weston at the Canadian Food Summit, reflecting on the importance of food inspections (to be fair, he later added, “I’m just saying that to be dramatic though”) [Toronto Star]
Farmer’s markets are as likely to kill as the BPA Loblaws is yet to remove from its packaging
Wasn’t there just a recall on PC baby food? Rancid Just sayn…
Judging by how willing my local Loblaws was to remove hot dogs from their shelves when the ones that I had bought had what appeared to be green mold in spite of a “best before” date of March 16 (more than a month to go), I would say that Mr Weston should look to his own before spouting off about the dangers of Farmers’ Markets. The day after I returned these hot dogs, the same brand and “best before” date was still being sold.
Maybe he was misquoted? Maybe he meant ‘Maple Leaf products are great, One day they’re going to kill some people though.’
Mr. Weston’s focus on preserving his market share would be better spent ensuring the quality he boasts.
What do you expect from the supermarket company that moves their headquarters from Yonge & St. Clair to a crappy office park in the middle of nowhere at Hwy 407 & Mississauga Rd in Brampton?
ha. this just gives me more motivation and reason to NOT shop at loblaws or anything of it’s kind. he does not sell real food.
