Frito-Lay gives up insanely loud SunChips bag, environmental bona fides
How important is silence when eating chips? Apparently very. Frito-Lay is ditching its innovative biodegradable Sun Chips bags because they’re too loud. Sales of the chips have dropped 11 per cent in the past year, according to USA Today. The green movement may have been irrevocably sullied—or, you know, drowned out by a loud crinkling sound.
Seems to us that this whole thing is counterintuitive. Chips are generally pretty loud, regardless of the bag. There’s a reason why it’s a faux pas to eat them while speaking to someone on the phone or sitting in a library. Truth be told, chips often pair well with lots of background noise. Then again, who are we to argue with guys like the one in this video (left)?
In other news, global warming continues to suck.
I think that Frito-Lay is making a mistake in ditching its noisy Sun Chips bags. In today’s modern grocery store, there is an endless variety of chips available – too many to choose from. That noisy Sun Chips bag stood out from the rest as an excellent choice for the environmentally friendly chip consumer. I will now gravitate to another brand since Sun Chips will blend in the with rest of the endless varieties.
I work in a grocery store and I HATE to have to scan Sun Chips. The bags are too noisey! I also refuse to buy them
until the bags are changed. I read recently that they’re
changing the way the bags are made in the US but not here in
Canada. Is this true???!!!
I am appalled at these comments: come on people, you CAN deal with a bit more noise if its for the environment. Canadians are expected to understand this, and that is why they are not changing the product here.
We Canadians can handle the noise!!!
screw that ill never buy another bag until changed.the sound of the bag makes me want to rip my arm off
