This new dessert bar does Froot Loop paletas, Dole Whip floats and vegan soft serve

Seven Lives, Kensington Market’s perpetually packed taqueria, has opened a dessert bar right across the street: the shop sells paletas, aguas frescas, vegan soft serve and a few more elaborate creations. The paleteria (already the second one to open in the market this year) is owner Sean Riehl’s attempt to bring the frozen treats of Mexico to Toronto, though some items, like the Dole Whip float (a Disney World staple), are just pure summery nostalgia without any Mexican ties.

Most of the paletas come in traditional fruit flavours (water, pineapple, kiwi) but there are Froot Loop versions, too. $3.25 each.

Colada Sundae: vegan soft serve (mango or pineapple) topped with vegan coconut whipped cream and coconut flakes. $5.

Horchata con Tuna: cold horchata with a scoop of tequila-infused prickly pear sorbet and walnuts. $5.

For the Mangonada, mango juice and puckery chamoy, a sauce made with pickled fruit, are poured over mango soft serve. A stalk of candied tamarind makes for an edible swizzle stick. $5.

The Dole Whip float is a combination of pineapple vegan soft serve and pineapple juice. $5.
