Opening Soon

Albino Silva does bistro, Mildred Pierce redux, and the invasion of the Quebec foodies

Chef Donna Dooher will finally unlock the doors to Mildred’s Temple Kitchen this September at 85 Hanna Avenue, in Liberty Village. The menu will revive favourites and the indulgent Sunday brunch from her last restaurant, the much-missed Mildred Pierce. Expect a casual, tablecloth-free atmosphere.

A Taste of Quebec opens this month at 55 Mill Street, Building 36. The gourmet boutique aims to satisfy foodies with a hankering for artisanal cheeses, smoked duck and foie gras. Itinerant chef J. P. Challet (The Fifth) will prepare special dishes for private tastings in a basement “vault.”

Rodney Bowers unveils a new lounge this fall, at 730 Queen Street East, upstairs from The Citizen. Yes, it’ll be named after the same movie, called either Kane Social or Charles Foster Room—he hasn’t decided. A small menu will focus on nibbles (cheeses, pâté, olives) and era-appropriate classic cocktails.

Albino Silva is aiming to open Oasi (at 99 Sudbury Street, the former Mildred Pierce space) during TIFF. The restaurant will be a casual cousin to his Chiado, with Mediterranean and classic bistro cooking (with an emphasis on seafood and fish) and a more affordable wine list (selected by celeb sommelier John Szabo).
