Under the creative direction of notorious ’80s Manhattan club czar (and Cornwall, Ontario, native) Peter Gatien, the two-floor King West space that formerly housed sweaty dance den Roxy Blu has been transformed into a much-hyped, swish supper club and lower-level lounge. Each weekend around midnight, sated by chef Laurent Brion’s sugar cane shrimp in a Chimay reduction ($15) and antioxidant-suffused pomegranate margaritas ($11), the city’s it girls and boys (including supermodel Heather Marks and fiddler turned Liberal leadership aspirant Ashley MacIsaac) march their designer footwear from the elegant cream and gold dining room downstairs to its hedonistic subterranean sister. There, amid black leather furnishings, dim lighting and provocative imagery (suspended by belts), Bay Street power players loosen their ties and offer leggy PR reps a drink from their bottle of Grey Goose ($240), while a thundering beat draws the rest of the non–bottle service (thus non-seated) crowd to the packed dance floor.
Tip: If the change purse permits, deluxe private rooms curtained off from prying eyes and seating about 12 can be had for a mere $500.
Restolounge open Tuesday to Saturday till midnight; club, Thursday to Saturday, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. 8 Restolounge and 8 Below, 12 Brant St., 416-360-8188.
