Radio Host, CBC

47Toronto media has, in general, followed the rest of the world down the path of increasingly clippy, tweet-size coverage—but not Matt Galloway, whose Metro Morning still sprawls across a roomy three-hour time slot every weekday morning. That gives Galloway the rare luxury of being able to deep-dive into complicated topics, a major reason why 288,000 Torontonians tune in on any given day. John Tory went on the show to explain his decision to press for a billion-dollar park atop Toronto’s downtown railway corridor. Black Lives Matter Toronto leader Janaya Khan dropped by to explain why she and her group decided to disrupt the Pride Parade. And Galloway managed to get Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong and Tim Maguire, president of the city’s inside workers’ union, to make a joint Metro Morning appearance in the thick of February’s tense contract negotiations.

Leisure pursuits:

Galloway is an avid runner, but anyone hoping to spot him had best wake up early: he rises at 3 a.m.
