Drake Diary: In which Drake shoots a Super Bowl commercial

A log of all the important, semi-important and exceedingly trivial things Mr. Graham does, says, buys, Instagrams, raps about, or influences in any way

On his Apple Music radio show, Drake announced that his next album, Views From the 6, will be coming out in April. At the same time, he debuted a new track, “Summer Sixteen.” The lyrics pick fights with some of his detractors, including Barack Obama (who infamously opined that Kendrick Lamar would beat Drake in a rap battle)—and, naturally, Meek Mill, who shot back with a response track later the same night. Meek later implied, in an Instagram post, that his speedy riposte was helped along by a leak from Drake’s ghostwriter. (Drake, for his part, has denied using ghostwriters—though he admits to working with “collaborators.”)

Drake

HOW IS DRAKE?
Ecstatic. At this point, he’s milked millions of dollars worth of free media coverage out of this Meek Mill beef. Don’t be surprised if he rekindles the feud again before the album drops.

Drake nabbed nominations for six more Juno Awards, including Album of the Year and Artist of the Year.

Drake

HOW IS DRAKE?
Skeptical. He has an uneasy history with the Junos. In 2011, in the Best Rap Recording category, he lost to Shad.

T-Mobile released its Super Bowl commercial a few days early, and hey—there’s Drake in his first acting role for at least a year, playing a super-agreeable version of himself. The 30-second spot imagines what would happen if telecom executives cowrote “Hotline Bling.”

Drake

HOW IS DRAKE?
Pleased. He looks like he’s having a good time. And the pay was probably enough to bankroll his next five Bugattis.

The internet found out that Drake and Rihanna—who recently collaborated on “Work,” a track on Rihanna’s new album—are shooting a music video in Toronto. The CBC reports that hundreds of people lined up outside a studio on Eastern Avenue in response to an open call for dancers.

Drake

HOW IS DRAKE?
Pleased. His last video worked out okay.
