Your star-spotting guide for Thursday, September 10

TIFF 2015 is finally here. As the champagne starts to flow and the buzz starts to build, everyone’s looking to get a little closer to the stars. Here are our best bets for spotting a celebrity on TIFF’s opening day.

Natalie Portman’s directorial debut A Tale of Love and Darkness premieres tonight at the Winter Garden Theatre. For fans who couldn’t see her at last night’s $650-a-head “TIFF Soiree” fundraiser, the red carpet might be the next best place to catch a glimpse.

Demolition is a new drama from Quebecois director Jean-Marc Vallée that features Jake Gyllenhaal as a grief-stricken (and slowly unravelling) investment banker and Naomi Watts as his new love interest. It opens with a gala at Roy Thomson Hall, but don’t worry if you can’t make tonight’s premiere or the after-party at Patria: as die-hard Haal-heads may remember, Jake was once spotted dining at the Harbord Room, so there’s a good chance he’ll show up for another burger.

The Drake and the Drake One Fifty are both hosting parties tonight that are open to the public. Both spots are notorious celebrity hangouts during TIFF (Taylor Kitsch and Donald Sutherland both made appearances at the hotel last year), and both have 4 a.m. last calls, so it never hurts to turn up—maybe you’ll run into Riggins at the bar.
