Your star-spotting guide for the weekend of Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13
This weekend is a dream come true for die-hard star-spotters, as TIFF parties ramp up and A-listers swarm the city for premieres and galas. Here are some of the best places to see some of your favourites:
As usual, Soho House is the place to be if you’re looking to do some hardcore celeb-hounding. Saturday is particularly packed—first up, a party for Miss You Already, which stars Drew Barrymore, Toni Collette and Jacqueline Bisset. Then comes the premiere shindig for the much-anticipated Trumbo, with Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Louis C.K., Elle Fanning, John Goodman and Helen Mirren.
Meanwhile, over at Roy Thompson Hall, Christopher Plummer will be walking the red carpet for the premiere of Atom Egoyan’s new film Remember.
Princess Bride watch: Director Jason Reitman has been slowly revealing the names of the actors taking part in his much-anticipated (and completely sold-out) Princess Bride table read this weekend. So far, he’s announced Rachel McAdams, Gage Munroe, Georges Laraque, Gael García Bernal and Donald Glover, so keep an eye out—they’ll all be in the city on Saturday.
If you’re tired of hanging around King West, Sunday’s Artists for Peace and Justice party offers something a little different. This invite-only party at Casa Loma (featuring a special performance by Moby!) will bring together celebs like Jane Fonda, George Stromboulopoulos, Paul Haggis and Helen Mirren (she’s everywhere).
There are also plenty of red carpets to stake out on Sunday. Freeheld, with Julianne Moore, Ellen Page, Steve Carrell and Michael Shannon, will have its gala premiere at Roy Thompson Hall, while Tom Hardy will be walking the red carpet at the Winter Garden for the opening of Legend.
And if you’re looking to catch a glimpse of your favourite A-listers in jean jackets and flannel, the Canada Party at the Fifth Social Club promises to bring together a number of Canadian film and TV superstars, including Demolition director Jean-Marc Vallée, who’s DJing at midnight. Maybe if you hang around outside he can bring you one of the special-edition Tim Hortons doughnuts they’ll be serving.
