TIFF Red Carpet: The Railway Man

Critics are griping about some of the directorial choices Jonathan Teplitzky made in The Railway Man, but the audience at last night’s world premiere had no such qualms, giving the historical biopic a standing ovation. Colin Firth plays British WWII veteran Eric Lomax, who is struggling to deal with the torture he faced at the hands of the Japanese. Both the British thespian and Nicole Kidman, who plays Lomax’s wife Patti, hit the red carpet looking sharp, if a little lacking in glamour, in matching black suits. Co-star Kirsten Cohen—er Kelly Rowan, rather—also narrowly missed the sartorial mark in a metallic ball skirt with a bondage-inspired black corset. It was the non-celeb, 76-year-old Patti Lomax, who pulled off the night’s best look: a floor-length gown with plaid cuffs and a matching escort.
