TIFF Red Carpet: Only Lovers Left Alive

Tilda Swinton and her uniquely futuristic red carpet style were conspicuously absent from last night’s premiere of Only Lovers Left Alive, the vampire romance directed by stoner-intellectual powerhouse Jim Jarmusch. While The Fifth Estate attracted the most intense opening-day hoopla, Only Lovers opened quietly at the Ryerson Theatre with a subdued and glamorous red carpet featuring its trio of young stars: Alice in Wonderland ingénue and current Jesse Eisenberg squeeze Mia Wasikowska, who sported a scarlet, floor-skimming Christian Dior gown; comely Avengers star Tom Hiddleston; and Star Trek Into Darkness actor Anton Yelchin. The film, which was nominated for a Palm D’Or at Cannes earlier this year, is a dark horse favourite on this year’s festival circuit.
