Since last October, Juno and Up in the Air director Jason Reitman has been organizing a series called “Live Read” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts, where he gets his famous actor friends to do a live table read of a beloved movie script (for instance, he did The Breakfast Club with Jennifer Garner portraying Molly Ringwald’s Claire Standish, somehow). On Thursday, Reitman’s bringing the show to TIFF with a live reading of American Beauty, that classic tale of mid-life crises and plastic bags, at the Ryerson Theatre at 6 p.m. (tickets are on sale along with the regular festival single tickets). The cast so far (he’s announcing them via Twitter):

  • Adam Driver (Lena Dunham’s creepy boyfriend from Girls) as the neighbour’s son Ricky Fitts (played by Wes Bentley in the film)
  • Toronto’s Sarah Gadon as Angela, the teenage object of Lester Burnham’s (Kevin Spacey) lust (played by Mena Suvari in the film)
  • Nick Kroll as Buddy (played by Peter Gallagher in the film)

We’re sure he’ll save the announcement of the actor playing Spacey’s Oscar-winning role for last…perhaps he’s turned to one of the A-listers already in town for the festival? Will Smith, say, or Mr. Darcy?
