GALLERY: Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell meet Rob Ford at the Hockey Hall of Fame
Yesterday afternoon, Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell arrived at the Hockey Hall of Fame to promote their upcoming film The Campaign—and to, um, meet Mayor Rob Ford. Ferrell sported an L.A. Kings jersey and came bearing coffee, while Galifianakis arrived looking like an aging cub scout and brought a muffin basket (it was adorable—just look at him). It seemed fairly obvious that the comedians were riffing on the city’s mixed feelings about its controversial mayor; a few seconds after Ferrell met the mayor, a reporter asked him if he had any advice for Ford, to which he replied “Who?” Ferrell then turned to the crowd and asked if Ford would be running again. There was a collective “yesssss” followed by awkward silence. As parting gifts, Ford presented the duo with miniature Stanley Cup statuettes, campaign literature and bumper stickers. We believe the expression on Galiafanakis’ face—here—says what we’re all thinking.
No time for international municipal leadership conferences (involves actual leadership), no time for going to gay pride events (even the ones at City Hall), no time for the city’s largest newspaper (or the media in general for that matter), but some comedy stars come to town draped in complete schtick and commercialism wholly unrelated to Toronto… and sure, why not, just pop on over to the Hockey Hall of Fame for an awkwardly earnest meet-and-greet. Biz-arre.
I mean, I guess I could see Miller saying hello if George Clooney dropped by for a green-themed or charity event or something, but at least he went to all the other stuff too. And didn’t treat a movie promotion as a serious event.
Sigh.
