Toronto FC MVP set to return to the club—but only if he says he’s sorry
Things are almost back to normal at Toronto FC. Word is that the ongoing contract drama that has beset the beleaguered Major League Soccer franchise will finally draw to a close when Adrian Cann returns to the fold today. The team’s most valuable player last year and a member of the Canadian national side, Cann left training camp a week ago in a huff, following in the footsteps of striker Dwayne De Rosario who walked out on TFC earlier this year (only, of course, to come back shortly thereafter).
Though Cann’s financial qualms aren’t resolved—he says he still deserves a bigger salary than the one that’s being offered—he wants to return to the Reds nonetheless. His agent told the press that he’s taking the “high road” over the dispute, even though his abrupt departure looked much more like a child collecting all his marbles and marching home than an adult making a smart and savvy negotiation ploy.
The club, for its part, says it will take its best defender back with open arms—but only if he apologizes first. We hope they’ve both learned their lessons and are ready to share a plate of cookies and a couple cool glasses of milk.
