Chris Colabello, the Blue Jays first baseman, has been suspended for half of the 2016 season after failing a urine test. Late this afternoon, the team announced that Colabello had tested positive for chlorodehydromethyltestosterone, which is the science-guy word for a type of anabolic steroid. In a statement, Colabello denied any wrongdoing, saying the March 13 call informing him of his situation was “the scariest and most definitely the least expected…of my entire life.” (Coincidentally or not, his batting average since the start of the season in April has been pretty poor. It’s currently the lowest of anyone on the active roster.) His suspension will be without pay, making this the one instance in which police work might have been a more lucrative career choice.
