TTC approves service cuts (or how riding the rocket just got a little squishier)

News broke recently that, apparently, it’s possible for TTC vehicles to be more crowded than they already are at rush hour. The city’s transit authority has approved a budget that will include cuts to busy bus routes and delay delivery of new streetcars and subway cars. Naturally, the impending marathon executive committee—part two—is dominating the headlines this morning, but this story is a big one nonetheless. After all, the budget represents cuts to two important measures of the quality of public transit: how quickly riders can get where they’re going, and how comfortable they are while getting there. Plus, with a fare hike to be discussed in December and Transit City proclaimed to be dead in the water, the future isn’t looking so rosy for city’s already ailing public transit system.
