Toronto Taxpayers Coalition releases report cards for city council (and no, Rob Ford didn’t receive an A)

The Toronto Taxpayers Coalition released its report cards for city council—yes, it actually does thatand, somewhat surprisingly, Mayor Rob Ford earned only a B grade (which, presumably, is better than he did at Carleton). The coalition’s grading scheme is based on significant council votes, as well as “comments councillors have made in the media, pet projects and controversies.” When it comes to pleasing right-wing advocacy groups, we had Ford pegged as an A student, but apparently the coalition thinks otherwise. The group’s president said the mayor simply slipped up too many times—for instance, getting caught on his cellphone while driving or inviting Don Cherry to council. Also, the comments section on Ford’s report says his promise to eliminate the land transfer tax “must be noted.” As for the rest of council, it earned a C+ grade overall, while fiscal conservatives received straights As and left-leaning councillors were essentially doomed to Fs.
