17Wynne’s most trusted cabinet minister and the province’s second-in-command has presided over an array of files in her 13 years at Queen’s Park. Wynne appointed Matthews Treasury Board president, which meant no minister could spend money without her blessing. After the Liberal cabinet reshuffled in June, she became the minister of advanced education and skills development and minister responsible for digital government, overseeing an overhaul of how Ontarians connect with government.

Family matters:

Former premier David Peterson is her brother-in-law; ex–federal PC party president Don Matthews is her father.
