Rob Ford gets kicked out of council chambers for (what else?) not apologizing for doing something wrong
It started as most things do with Rob Ford: with a dispute over a vanishingly small amount of money. At today’s city council meeting, according to the Sun’s Don Peat and other reporters there, Councillor Ford (he’s a councillor now, remember?) accused city staff of deliberately omitting $20,000 in travel fees from an estimate of the cost of planning Toronto’s participation in the upcoming Milan Expo 2015—an omission that he implied was made so those staffers could score free trips to Italy without anyone noticing. When Ford refused to retract the comment, speaker Frances Nunziata ordered him to leave the council chamber. Ford demanded a vote on his ejection, which he lost, 29 to 4. He left on his own before council’s sergeant-at-arms could escort him out.
what a fuqwit. Can’t he just go away already?
Your article implies that Ford did something wrong. But what is it? He is constantly trying to save tax payers’ money, and the council doesn’t let him. Do you approve THEIR behavior? You actually sound that you do. You are OK with city’s spending on councilors trips to Milan for shopping and dining.
Rob Ford: A man for the people, not for the sheeple.
From The Star, “Mike Williams, the city’s general manager of economic development, told council the travel money was not in the report because it had not yet been approved and because he does not yet have any details.” I find He-who-must-not-be-named is looking for anything, even something that will turn up in some future meetings, to complain about.
Uh oh Rob’s figured out how to use Disqus.
Can Etobicoke just separate already and leave the rest of us alone?
No big deal, it was a waste of time the dispute over a “small amount of money” – are you for real?! That is why Toronto City Council needs to be cleaned up of all the crooks in it. Apparently $20,000 is not respected enough in Council these days, a DAMN penny needs respect when it does not belong to you.
Don’t the Canadian’s have “recall elections”?
Oh, look—another Ford Nation member who believes that breaking rules is OK, as long as it saves him/her 0.000025% on their property tax.
You just don’t get it: it’s wrong for a Councillor to waste money but obey the rules. It’s also wrong for a Councillor to save money but break the rules.
The only—only, folks—acceptable behaviour for a Councillor is to save money and also obey the rules.
The last Council (pretty much the same people) made noises about bidding on the 2024 Olympics and the 2025 World’s Fair. If memory serves it was championed by Councillor Wong-Tam February, 17th 2014. I predict that they will offer the Olympic bid as a red herring so that residents will accept Expo 2025 (which we’d probably get) as a sort of consolation. The expense of such endeavors will make the Pan-Am fiasco seem like a bargain by comparison. Toronto must focus on investment in badly decaying and delayed infrastructure projects. Ford was elected Mayor in 2010 in great part because he highlighted self-aggrandizing and self-serving abuses of taxpayer’s money by Council. If he doesn’t trust that the trip to Italy was omitted from the report to be voted on as an accidental oversight, that’s his opinion based on a history of such incidents. If it was a simple oversight then the staffers who authored the motion and the Councillors who supported it, in spite of this error, should be questioned on why they didn’t send it back for review. I don’t care for the theatrics on all sides on this matter, just the expense and accountability.
Rob Ford is addicted to attention (among other things, apparently), and would rather be a destructive force through his rudeness and arrogance than be constructive and contribute to constructive discussion.
What is it with Rob Ford……he acts like a 10 year old kid who was not made captain of the
baseball team ? Pack up your balls, and gloves and go home……..don’t call us we will call you…….you can try again in 4 years………..
Actually Ford supporters are sheeple.
They’re not normally capable of rational thought, (like their leader) so they go bouncing from one error to another.
He’s being a naughty boy once again. Obiviously he hasn’t learned a thing.
Rob does not give a damn about anything, except Rob Ford. Don’t fall for his taxpayers scam.
The voters gave Rob Ford the job as mayor so he could make good on all his promises he spoke about the entire election. What a let down and a waste of 4 years as Mayor Ford used and abused his office for things other than business. Ford turned his back on the many that put there trust in him along with a long list of disappointment we not need bring to any ones attention Mayor Ford really let us down……..
Now Mayor John Tory is running the city and is doing a good job, much to the disappointment of councillor Rob Ford who continues to find fault with everything Mayor Tory does……it’s a shame to see such poor behaviour of an X Mayor who was unable to match any of the work Tory has done to date…..
Time to grow up Rob Ford as sure as hell the voters of this city no matter what you may think or believe would have never, ever given you another 4 years to waste, you got ward 2 back try doing a good job for those people before looking for a bigger piece of the pie….
City hall and the city of Toronto needs a roll model to lead us into the future, sorry but that can never be you, we all know and see that John Tory is an honest hard working man who will work with everyone to move Toronto ahead, Time will tell who the winner will be over the next 4 years……..
We back John Tory then and now, proud to say he is our mayor of Toronto…………..
From someone who want to see things done for the city…
