Rob and Doug Ford’s trash-talking may be reviewed by the integrity commissioner
Rob Ford is facing another formal complaint over misconduct, this time for targeting Toronto’s medical officer of health, Dr. David McKeown, on his and brother Doug’s most recent radio show. After the brothers insinuated McKeown should be fired and talked about looking into the doctor’s “embarrassing” $290,000 salary, councillor John Filion, who is also chair of the board of health, stepped in. Filion asked the Fords to apologize to McKeown by yesterday at noon—or else he’d take action against them. The Fords missed the deadline (the mayor was pretty busy) so now Filion will formally ask the city’s integrity commissioner to investigate. [Toronto Star]
These two don’t seem to understand the responsibility and restraint that goes with the public positions they hold. Either that or they just blatantly exploit them. They come across as a pair of self-serving, redneck hicks, having a laugh at the expense of the public purse. They refuse to listen to the public and are bullish and heavy-handed in pursuit of their aims. Like a pair of con-men, they seem out for what they can get before they shoot through and leave someone else to clean up the mess. They’re not representative of Torontonians and are making a joke of City Hall.
What an embarrassment to our fine city.
“The people of this city have spoken loud and clear, they want injuries folks, they want injuries, injuries, injuries,” Ford told councillors.
“People hate public health, they hate these doctors, you can call them what you want, people want injuries folks, injuries, injuries. They don’t want these damn doctors healthifying our city!”
“That’s what they don’t want!”
For all his faults and semi inappropriate behavior he is the right mayor at the right time. We could not afford a central or left leaning mayor in these tougher economic times. In 6-10 years when the recession is over globally we can shift focus to more tax and spend behavior and grow the city workforce again ( to the benefit of the 905 communities who hate Toronto )
I do like the anti graffiti stance, I am happy to see the tags taken off my community
