QUOTED: Doug Ford loudly defends the mayor’s right to drive an Escalade
The Toronto Star can go to hell and you can quote me on that.
—Doug Ford, lashing out at Canada’s largest daily paper for criticizing the Cadillac Escalade he and brother Randy gave Rob Ford for his 43rd birthday. In a column titled “The Ford Brothers’ Escalade escapade,” Christopher Hume called Doug a “one-percenter, plutocrat and luxury SUV driver” and argued that Rob ought to own up to his privileged roots rather than pretending to be an everyman. Doug called the coverage a “bunch of crap” and said the newspaper shouldn’t have targeted Rob since he only reluctantly accepted the gift. So, thanks to a fancy car, the long-standing beef between the newspaper and the Ford family is continuing to, er, escalate. [Toronto Sun]
As long as Taxpayers did not pay for it, why should we care ? seriously.. I read the article in the Star and shook my head. I thought Hume was focus on buildings and architecture.. was shocked he was writing up on this.
Am I the only one who thinks the Ford brothers have bought this car as a “company” car for Deco Labels? Maybe the taxpayers won’t be paying for it with City dollars but our Federal tax dollars will be with them writing it off as an expense. They really are the “Fraud brothers”.
Well said Tootsie! I saw Doug drove up at the Shell station at yonge/yorkmills one sunday afternoon in his. Blue jeans and a sunglasses and eating an ice cream bar. I was about to snap a pic of him with ma cell phone but he looked like a real red neck I was scared!!
You couldn’t find a newer photo of an Escalade? What is that? The 2004 model?
Who cares?! The Toronto Star is always ranting about Ford. Talk about biased journalism. What a rag. He can drive what ever he wants.
I am NO Ford lover but what the heck does this have to do anything with his the mayor and his mayorship. If he (or his business) can afford to buy it (legal tax breaks and all) … why should we care.
And the war goes on between printed foolscap and a fool.
