Police were considering drug-possession charges against Rob Ford
Thanks to yet another batch of police search-warrant documents, unsealed earlier this morning by court order, it’s now clear that Toronto police were at one time considering laying drug-possession charges against Rob Ford. According to the Globe, the new documents say that police efforts to locate the second crack video, believed to have been filmed in the basement of the mayor’s sister Kathy Ford, were done with “evidence of…drug possession against Robert Ford” in mind. No charges have been laid, though, and it’s not clear whether Project Brazen 2 detectives are still pursuing that line of inquiry. The new documents contain other interesting details, like a summary of a police interview with Kathy during which she confirmed to investigators that she and Rob were smoking crack when the second video was recorded.
Don’t forget that Rob Ford is running for councillor in Ward 2. Then, what about Rob’s relatives? One is running for mayor, Doug Ford, the other is running for school trustee in Ward 2, Michael Ford.
Despite sympathizing with Rob Ford’s predicament, I am confused about why Rob has not yet been arrested. Is it now legal to smoke crack cocaine? Would you or I , caught on video tape smoking crack and had a witness testify that we were smoking crack, be let off scot free by the popo?
Most likely because Rob Ford his a very high profile guy, the police need an air-tight case if they are going to press charges, and they’re probably investigated something that is much more serious.
Two videos. Confessing to smoking crack in the first. Sister’s eye witness testimony in the second. What else do the cops need to make this air-tight ? The system of justice in Ontario is failing us when there are so clearly two standards followed.
