Proposed cuts from the library board hint at a crazy contingent

The city may have rejected the proposal to close library branches, but that hasn’t stemmed the flow of controversial suggestions to meet Mayor Rob Ford’s demand of 10 per cent budget cuts. The Toronto Star reports that one mysterious library board member recently made a number of bizarre suggestions, like closing a third of public libraries across Toronto, including its highest-circulation branch. It’s a relief to hear that the vice-chair of the library board says these cuts will be rejected and that the other board members are less extreme.
