Apparently, executive committee member Jaye Robinson doesn’t like mega-malls, Ferris wheels or monorails

Mayor Rob Fords terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week continued today, as a member of his executive committee—Councillor Jaye Robinson—publicly proclaimed that she will not support his grand vision for the waterfront (she said his plan is “ill-conceived,” “reckless” and poised to do “irrevocable harm to the city”). Robinson breaking ranks appears to be further evidence of the mayor’s dwindling supportacross the city, on council and among his allies. Of course, we expect the mayor’s most stalwart supporters to continue blaming the increased dissent on those pesky, brainwashing unions. The Toronto Star is reporting that Deputy Mayor Doug Ford Holyday accused the municipal unions and their left-leaning council sympathizers of turning public sentiment against the mayor, but said the Ford administration can do a better job of spreading its message.” Now, we don’t doubt that unions are effective organizers when it comes to preserving their own jobs (that’s part of the reason they exist, after all). But perhaps, as the mayor watches his support erode, his allies might consider that insulting voters by attributing their opinions to union bullying isn’t the best idea—really, it will probably only make them angrier.
