Ron MacLean helps prevent a suicide

Ron MacLean now has another exciting anecdote for his forthcoming biography. The Hockey Night in Canada co-host was eating lunch with Don Cherry at a restaurant on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, when a woman rushed in yelling that her husband was trying to save a man in the river. “So I get up and I can see that her husband’s jumping into the river, he’s stripped down, just in his underwear, and he’s jumping into the Delaware River,” MacLean told the CBC.

MacLean grabbed a velvet rope from the patio and leapt over the railing to help the victim, who was tied up with rope and had tape over his mouth, while Cherry supervised.

In the end, MacLean and the other man were able to pull the man, who was trying to commit suicide, to shore. Naturally, MacLean is bashful: “The real hero was the first guy, who arrived first. I wish I had his name. He kind of rushed off quickly because he was sort of half naked.”
