Port Lands development may be on the fast track (but no word if that track is a monorail)

One product of Doug Ford’s failed attempt to turn the Port Lands into a waterfront amusement park is a commitment to expediting development. Sure, councillors were unanimous in their opposition to Ford’s plan, but a consensus seems to have emerged that the project could be moving more quickly. The Globe and Mail reported on the weekend that Waterfront Toronto head John Campbell is open to accelerated development, and even to deviations from the original scheme. (He even uttered the dreaded words “tourist attraction.”) Of course, there’s still no clear indication of what the revamped plan could look like. Despite Campbell’s assertion that the “handcuffs are off,” the project appears to be bogged down by the bureaucracy that Rob Ford and brother Doug hate so much. According to the Globe, both Campbell and deputy city manager John Livey declined to give a firm date for the makeover—they’re waiting for the results of the review, which council is due to receive in June.
