Doug Ford can’t legally be Rob Ford’s replacement, but he’s going to try it anyway

doug-ford-now-whatDoug Ford has now apparently made peace with the fact that he can’t legally take over Ward 2 councillor duties while his brother Rob Ford (the actual, elected Ward 2 rep) is recovering from cancer surgery. Except “making peace,” in the Fordiverse, still looks a lot like a temper tantrum. Doug told the Sun’s Joe Warmington that, since the law forbids him from becoming councillor pro tem, and since city policy prevents councillors from employing their own relatives, he’ll instead sign up as an unpaid volunteer in Rob’s office, allowing him to act as a sort of “shadow councillor” with no formal powers—only the ability to pester city staffers for favours. “I will return every call,” Doug said to Warmington. “Somebody has to keep an eye on the taxation and spending.”
