Doug Ford basically doesn’t say a single true thing during his Metro Morning interview
This morning’s interview with Doug Ford on CBC’s Metro Morning was an amazing demonstration of the mayoral candidate’s ability to bluster. Under withering questioning from host Matt Galloway, Ford not only refused to engage with reality, but actually substituted his own alternate-universe take. At one point, Galloway confronted Ford with the fact that his city council attendance record is among the worst (which is absolutely true). “I was in the chamber,” Ford replied. “I had one of the best attendance records for showing up, being there.” Asked about his consistently inaccurate claims about the city budget, Ford accused Galloway of being ignorant of the city’s finances, which are public knowledge. “I’ve never had an interview that someone’s been so disingenuous to me in my life,” Ford said, disingenuously.
So Doug Ford goes on Metro Morning, the most popular morning radio show in the city, with almost certainly the best informed listeners of any show or debate that Ford will ever be on, with a host, Matt Galloway, who has for years proven to be well-informed on every aspect of the city…
… and Ford decides the best strategy is to attack and to bully and to lie throughout the interview.
If Ford’s plan was to turn as many voters against him as he could in 20 minutes, mission accomplished.
This is absolutely beautiful comedy. It’s flawless, really.
Dougie fighting with some elitist CBC reporter is gonna play real good in Ford Nation. Did he say some stuff that wasn’t true? Who friggin cares. As Dougie himself said, “It’s not about the truth.”
In his own way Ford is preaching to the choir without realizing that there isn’t enough choir to get him elected. For a lot of people Matt Galloway is just the smart guy elitist guy on CBC that didn’t succeed at catching Doug in a gotcha interview. This is the root of everybody’s frustration with the Fords.
Agreed, however many of Metro Morning’s listeners likely would not have voted for him anyway. It would have far more effective if this interview was heard on a station that Ford nation listens to.
He was particularly startling with his comments about the autistic kids’ home … he denied they had autism and he denied he told the father of one of them to “go to hell” … he also came close to denying he’d called his fellow councillors “monkeys” … doubtless his Ford Nationalistas lapped up all the lies like gravy … hey! he missed mentioning the gravy train.
I am waiting … watching Dougie in the news is like watching a caged animal … snarling and biting. It’s only a matter of time before he ‘loses’ it and goes away frothing at the mouth.
Good call. It happened tonight: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/fords-alleged-anti-semitic-remarks-land-brother-doug-in-hot-water/article20940382/#dashboard/follows/
I think you are right and it is a shame. It says to me that “Ford Nation” doesn’t care about good governance or the truth. They would rather root for their faux folk hero as he blusters against the “elites” than engage with actual issues.
Do you agree with “Dougie”? And if it isn’t about the truth, than what is it about?
