Margaret Atwood expresses support for librarians on strike (no reponse yet from Doug Ford)

By now, it’s clear that the ongoing library strike won’t spark another spirited bout between literary critic Doug Ford and obscure author Margaret Atwood (sadly). The writer did send an email to the Globe and Mail expressing her support for the striking workers, writing that people “sometimes don’t understand that it takes people to make [libraries] run.” And in true Atwood fashion, she rallied her 312,000 followers around the strike via Twitter. But, whether due to media fatigue over Toronto’s many labour issues—or the fact that Atwood’s not even in Toronto right now—her comments haven’t really generated the sort of fireworks that they did last year.
