The Moment: Rob Ford’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad month
What does it say when your mayor gets humiliated on the stand and it’s not even the most damning moment of his month? In the span of a few weeks, Ford defended his predilection for reading while driving as proof of his ability to multi-task, ducked out of an executive committee meeting five and a half hours early to coach his beloved Don Bosco Eagles and was accused of exerting his mayoral influence to get roadwork done tout de suite at the family company HQ (an allegation he denies). Not that any of it left a mark. Like his appearance on the stand, those foot-in-mouth moments reinforced the plain-talkin’, head-in-the-sand image of him we already had. But then word got out that he might have been using city resources to run his football team—the same sort of abuse of taxpayer dollars that he’d railed against to so many huzzahs during his campaign. If it turns out the gravy train is making whistle stops in Ford’s own office, the much-anticipated trial verdict might be irrelevant.
