The opening of Canada’s first J.Crew (and, for that matter, the first J.Crew outside of the U.S.) was bound to attract some attention. Even those who say that they get a nosebleed north of Bloor trudged up to Yorkdale—though we heard at least six people complain about the trek—to get a peek at the women’s-only boutique. The fashion media was there in full force, including Now magazine’s fashion editor Andrew Sardone, the Globe and Mail’s Tiyana Grulovic, Maggie Wrobel and Amy Verner, the National Post’s Nathalie Atkinson, Fashion magazine’s Randi Bergman and Bernadette Morra, Flare magazine’s Jennifer Campbell, Ryan Cheung and Mosha Lundström-Halbert, the Star’s Derick Chetty, freelancer Sarah Nicole Prickett, BlogTO’s Briony Smith and bloggers galore—if a bomb went off, the city would have no one left to write about pretty frilly things. Find out who else was there in our gallery after the jump. The media mingled with the typical boldface names you see at these things, like Suzanne Cohon and Traci Melchor, and sipped vodka lemonades (better than Mike’s Hard, trust us)—served by impossibly good-looking J.Crew–esque male models waiters—with CEO Mickey Drexler (celebrating his 67th birthday) and creative director Jenna Lyons. Lyons, braless with a sparkling, sequined emerald-green skirt and rumoured to be well over six feet in heels (she certainly towered over us), premiered her new ’do while igniting at least 50 new girl-crushes. As we left, we saw a scrum of teens attempting to get into the iconic temple of preppy-dom, but they left defeated and had to wait one whole day to look like mini–Blair Waldorfs.
