Here’s a list of people who make lots of money. That is all

Yesterday, the Star published on their site a list of provincial employees who make more than $100,000. And by list, we mean just that: no ledes, graphs or even an April Fool’s Day reference. It’s just a long list of names, job titles and dollar signs—no reference to the cover story on those employed in the public sector who made the “sunshine list.”

Interesting tidbits from the list include a plumber with the TDSB who makes $108,709 and a dog handler with the OPP who makes $141,051. More baffling are such job titles as “Mississauga party chief” (those plastic cups don’t order themselves, honey); “desktop planning manager” (a desktop background can make or break a government); “manager, sexually transmitted diseases, City of Toronto” (herpes wrangler?); “manager, international rest of world Ministry of Economic Development and Trade” (Dr. Evil?); and “issues manager” (rearranges magazines).

Not surprisingly, CEOs are making top dollar. The presidents and CEOs of such medical institutions as SickKids, Mount Sinai and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre each raked in more than $700,000 in 2009. Also worth noting is that there’s serious money in being a coroner—10 are listed, each earning $200,000 to $400,000—since death is a recession-proof business.
